It's of those 2.0 phrases that no one stops to think about the real definition of.
We work programs where the team is spread over North America. We'd never consider them virtual.
Just more nonsense from those pretending they managed projects with distributed teams.

I've been using the term 'virtual team' for many, many years (10+...15+???) to refer to globally spread teams that have to rely on various virtual communications methods to work together. It evolved out of 'virtual reality' which was a hot topic back in the early '90s.
