Interesting quote. Having read your post I've done some further reading and found and interesting summary regarding the the use of this quote by Ronald Reagan and it's quite fascinating. See in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust,_but_verify.

Shim,

I must confess to misappropriating the quote but the shoe did fit...

Thanks for the background information on the quote. I find it particularly funny that the Russians have the same one.

Although I was not a fan of Reagan; I must say he was quite good a driving a point home

Regards,

Patrick

It's so lucky for me to find your blog! So shocking and great! Just one suggestion: It will be better and easier to follow.

Yep. I pretty much have to agree with that. That sums up management to a tee for me. As a manager, you don't have the option to get directly involved in every single decision...that's why you hire your people. While you trust them to do their jobs, however, you need to have the peace of mind that they're doing their jobs well. That's where reporting and questions come in. :-)

Hey Geoff,

Thanks for the comment. Isn't if funny that management ends up playing the part of policeman or parental guidance? Maybe that why no one likes a manager...
